Initiative Overview: Bank on DC is the first comprehensive program in the District of Columbia to serve the "unbanked," those who live without access to mainstream financial institutions and are forced to rely on expensive check-cashing services. In October 2009, City Administrator Neil Albert, Deputy Mayor Valerie Santos, and DISB Commissioner Gennet Purcell challenged every local financial institution to partner with the City and help remove barriers that have historically kept the unbanked out of the financial mainstream.

Initiative Overview: A national employee benefits provider based in Atlanta, GA was in the process of developing its long-term strategic plan. As part of this effort, the company wanted to evaluate opportunity and create a business case to provide financial wellness as a core service offering of the company. This benefits provider reached out to FELA for help with their strategic review.

Initiative Overview: The Kentucky Community & Technical College System was working with the U.S. Department of the Treasury to develop a pilot program for financial education on several of the KCTCS's campuses. KCTCS wanted to provide a two hour personal finance program designed especially for KCTCS students. The Treasury turned to FELA for technical assistance on this initiative.

Initiative Overview: Financial education has long been the domain of non-profits which by many measures has had mixed results. Status quo solutions to the problem of financial illiteracy were not sufficient to the leadership at the Community Financial Education Foundation so they reached out to FELA to help approach the issue in new and innovative ways.
